Since 1999, the Center for Contemporary Jewish documentation (CDJC) has endeavored to develop a list of the Jews who were victims of the Shoah in France, based on the original documents deposited in their archives. These include the original lists established upon the departure of the convoys from Drancy, which were also used by Serge Klarsfeld to establish the Memorial book of the Jews deported from France (first published in 1978).
These documents were incomplete and in poor condition and have been partially completed by the forms sent in by close to 18,000 families with written documents attesting the changes to be made or additional information requested.
The data base may be consulted for family or historical research although the CDJC documents deal essentially with the Second World War. The data base, which can also be accessed through other specialized organizations for genealogical purposes, contains the list of names on the Wall of Names, the register of Jews killed in France other than in deportation (to be completed), the list of persons executed or who died in the French internment camps, the list of Jewish resistance fighters who belonged to the network of the Jewish Combat Organization and the names of the Righteous of France as registered by Yad Vashem (Israel). The data base is the result of the restitution of archives which may explain certain variations in the spelling of family names, first names or information concerning dates of birth.
