Testimony is essential to the construction of the Shoah Memory. It is an irreplaceable source for researchers and historians because it adds a human dimension to the transmission of facts which cannot be dissociated from emotion. A number of testimonies, often forgotten or gone unheeded, were collected by the Center of Contemporary Jewish Documentation. These stories and interviews are available at the Memorial, in written form in the reading room, or as audiovisual cassettes and DVDs in the Multimedia Learning Center.
A selection of texts, among the testimonies published by the "Revue d'histoire de la Shoah" (History of the Shoah Review), are available on this site.
In keeping with its tradition of archive collection and dissemination of documents, the Memorial intends to use the Internet to collect new testimonies from deportees, hidden children, rescuers, resistants and descendants of primary witnesses. After cross-checking and validation, these testimonies will enrich the collection in the Documentation Center and may be published on this site. How to submit your testimony:
There are three options:
1 - You wish to honor the memory of a relative or a friend by testifying briefly about his or her life: you can post a message on the "In memoriam" (Pour mémoire) forum. (The forums are accessible from the left hand column on this page).
2 - You wish to write your testimony directly through the Memorial site and add, if available, documents such as photographs, sound or video recordings, facsimiles of documents). Please fill in the form below and tick the box "I wish to testify via Internet".
3 - You have already drafted your testimony on paper or recorded it on a cassette, CDrom or any other media, and you wish to leave it with the Memorial archives: to make an appointment, please fill in the following form and tick the box "I wish to make an appointment".
Nota bene: we are not able at this time to make appointments for recording an oral testimony. The only two options for the time being are leaving a text or depositing a recording on magnetic tape, film, or other electronic medium.
TO AVOID CONFUSION: the form "depositing testimony" is not the appropriate means to put questions to the Memorial staff. Messages to the staff should be sent by email to:
contact@memorialdelashoah.org for general questions noms@memorialdelashoah.org for questions about the Wall of Names and search for persons webmestre@memorialdelashoah.org for questions about the functioning of the Internet site
