The Inauguration Ceremony of the Shoah Memorial |

In January 2005, three ceremonies were organized at the time of the inauguration of the Shoah Memorial, rue Geoffroy l'Asnier in Paris:
- the actual opening ceremony of the Shoah Memorial after several years of construction work
- the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp by the Red Army on January 27, 1945.
- On Sunday January 23, close to one thousand people attended the formal inauguration of the Wall of Names presided by Eric de Rothschild, President of the Shoah Memorial. Simone Veil, president of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah (Fondation pour la mémoire de la Shoah) as well as Rabbi Gilles Bernheim each made a formal address on this occasion.

On Tuesday January 25, the Shoah Memorial was inaugurated by the President of the French Republic, Jacques Chirac.

On Thursday January 27, at the end of the morning, Eric de Rothschild, president of the Shoah Memorial, opened the commemoration of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. Samuel Pisar, international Lawyer and Honour President of Yad Vashem France, Jean-Paul Huchon, President of the Regional Council of the Ile-de-France and Bertrand Delanoë, the Mayor of Paris also spoke to the assembly.

After the ceremony, the Memorial was officially opened and very numerous visitors immediately entered this place of remembrance and transmission of history created for the general public to view the wall of names, the permanent exhibit, the Jews in France during the Second World War, the Multimedia Learning Center and the Memorial bookstore.
