Auschwitz study tour
The Shoah Memorial organizes study tours of the Auschwitz camp, as part of a program initiated and financially supported by the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah (Fondation pour la mémoire de la Shoah). These tours include special preparation and address mainly students in the final three years of secondary school. They are organized for an entire class, accompanied by a maximum of two teachers. Former deportees are present. After the tour, each teaching unit produces a pedagogical project (exhibition, CD Rom, film, website, etc.).
The Memorial has entered into an agreement with the Regional Council of the Ile-de-France (greater Paris regional authorities) with the object of organizing a program for raising awareness and providing information addressing young people on the subject of the Shoah. Various projects are proposed free of charge to students and teaching staff in the secondary schools of the greater Paris area: information sessions for school heads, teachers and librarians, sessions for students, exhibitions on the Holocaust, films projections, study tours to Auschwitz. The Shoah Memorial participates in the organization of school projects on request at the places of remembrance of the Holocaust in France and elsewhere (sites of former concentration camps or killing centers - Treblinka, Maidanek, Bergen-Belsen, and Buchenwald - or internment camps in Drancy, Les Milles, and Rivesaltes. These study tours are part of an educational program based on in depth and personal preparation using appropriate and exclusive educational materials with the assistance of qualified trainers and a careful follow-up after the journeys.
