Yahad-In Unum

The Yahad-In Unum Association was founded on the initiative of Cardinal Lustiger, Cardinal Ricard and Israel Singer. It’s aim is to promote common projects founded on ethics based on the Gift of the Law on Mount Sinai.

During the last few years, the Association has supported the research of every mass grave holding Jewish victims shot by the Einsatzgruppen. Its aim is to find the sites where the Jews were buried, and any Ukrainian witnesses who saw the executions. Most of them were children or adolescents during the Second World War.

Such research reveals how the Jews were assassinated from village to village. Bullet-casing left by the Germans has been retrieved thanks to the team’s work.

It is important to bring to light the history of the executions, and also to provide a dignified burial ground for the thousands of Jews piled into unknown mass graves.

Research in Ukraine should be finished by 2010. It is supported by the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah, directed by Madame Simone Veil, and then by David de Rothschild. Research is also backed by the Claims Conference and by the Targum Foundation.

The Yahad-In Unum Association also supports other projects in Switzerland, Spain and the United States, where Catholics and Jews work together. During such encounters, Catholic and Jewish authorities reflect on how best to confront the challenges of today’s world.
