Jewish writer in Romania, Benjamin Fondane, having been recognized in his country, established Paris at the age of 25. Po te, thinker, playwright and director, being resolutely modern and attentive to the avant-garde, he nevertheless keeps his distance from schools and doctrines, political movements and literary ones, and seeks his own path, his personal answer to timeless questions like those posed by his poque.
During the years 1930 and 1940, Fondane dialogue with the personalities of his time: Artaud, Bachelard, Camus, Cioran, to name just a few. Finally, the encounter with the existential philosopher L on Chestov of which he becomes the disciple. Among his artist friends, Brancusi, Brauner, Man Ray have left us thundering portraits of him.
