JEWISH MEMORY OF PARIS

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

February 14, 2010 Auditorium of the Shoah Memorial.

Frida Wattenberg, co-president with Rachel Jédinak opens the GA by reading a very beautiful speech recalling the history of the creation of our association and paying tribute to all her companions who, with them worked with courage and passion in order to collect all these photos that today constitute the treasure of Memory.

Then, Rachel Jedinak takes the floor and presents the newcomers in the team, all animated by the desire to continue with the "old" this mission of presentation, dissemination and enrichment of the photographic collection on Jewish immigration from the end of the 19th century until 1948, date of the creation of the state of Israel.

It reminds our duty to circulate our exhibition and thanks the generosity of loyal members who send us their donations in order to allow us to make the association live.

Indeed, thanks to these donations, we were able to reprint our catalog and sell it at various events.

Rachel Jedinak reiterates our mission to bear witness, to show this past through legendary photos, and to revive those who are no longer there at all costs:
"If we stopped thinking about it, we would finish exterminating them. They would be permanently annihilated. The dead depend on our fidelity."

Then it is the turn of our new Secretary General, Michèle Lévy Bonvalot to speak on behalf of the Bureau.

She first and foremost thanks the Memorial for its help and support.

Then, she briefly reviews our exhibition of the month of October to take stock.

The essential point is the ever-present interest in this photographic heritage. Thanks to this project, we republished the book "Images de la Mémoire Juive" in a smaller format and which is a great success in bookstores.

Similarly, we have reviewed, corrected and enriched with new photos the exhibition catalog and Boris Cyrulnik has very kindly agreed to preface it for us.

    There are many projects:
  • • In an effort to improve our communication, we would like to publish three newsletters each year and organize regular Open Doors events.

  • • Create a website to give our association better readability, with regular updates and a discussion forum.

  • • Organize book sales, which are an opportunity for meetings and exchanges. Some have already been scheduled.

  • • Develop our communication with institutional stakeholders and potential partners.

  • • Get closer to structures that can contribute to the transmission of this heritage.

  • • Rethink the exhibition in order to make it more portable and modular. We could consider a partial exhibition and a full exhibition because we had to refuse an offer from the City Hall of the 1st arrondissement because the village hall was too small to host the exhibition.

  • • Promote and enrich the photographic collection through a document donor reception desk.
  • We would like to remind you that all forms of good will are required, and we invite you to join us at our meetings every fortnight.

  • Then we move on to the election of the members of the new board:
    Co-Presidents: FridaWattenberg, Rachel Jedinak
Vices –Presidents: Marcel Apeloig, Charles Tsyboula
    Secretary General: Michèle Lévy Bonvalot
Deputy Secretaries: Hélène Burstein – Anne Adda – Muriel Flicoteaux
Treasurer: Daisy Czerniewicz – Deputy Treasurer: Georgette Blajchman
The discharge was voted unanimously, as well as the approval of the new board.

The assembly wishes to warmly thank Véra Steinfeld for her work as treasurer over such many years.
The GA ends of course with a tasting of a magnificent buffet prepared by the hands of our members.
