Chapter 2: Status of the Jews

This first legislative text, enacted by the Vichy government on October 18, 1940 but unveiled two weeks earlier, excluded Jews from a large number of positions in the public service, education, and the press. entertainment, but do not close the liberal professions to them yet. He nevertheless authorized "the elimination of surplus Jews". Foreign or stateless Jews are subject to internment in "special camps" at the discretion of departmental prefects.
