A last book

Chapter 4: A last word

Irène Némirovsky scribbled this note for her husband’s address upon his arrival at the camp of Pithiviers, in Loiret, on July 15, 1942. The day before being deported, she writes these last words: "My dear beloved, my little adored ones. I believe we are leaving today. Courage and hope. You are in my heart, my beloved ones. May God help us all.”
