Prepare for your trip

Visit to the Shoah Memorial

As part of the preparation of study trips, participating students may be welcomed at the Shoah Memorial for a day of preparation. They will benefit from a guided tour of the Memorial and the permanent exhibition, as well as activities offered by the educational department. The visit and activities of the Memorial are, in this context, free (meals are not covered). To organize this visit, teachers must contact the pedagogical service as soon as possible, indicating that they are part of the classes selected for the Regional Council / Memorial study trips.

Educational Service: tel. 01 53 01 17 25 / 26. Send an email to Jacques-Olivier David.

You will then benefit from priority access to the Memorial and appropriate support. The shots within the Shoah Memorial are subject to prior authorization from the communication department.

Communication department: tel. 01 53 01 17 39. Send an email to the Communication department.

It is your responsibility to take out school insurance for this visit.

Administrative formalities

It is imperative that all participants have the following facilities to travel to Poland:

  • for European nationals: valid identity card or passport.
  • for non-EU nationals: passport and visa according to the country of origin.

Since the time taken to grant visas varies, formalities must be initiated as soon as possible. The coordinating teacher ensures before the day of departure that each student is in possession of the necessary documents to access the Polish and French territories. Any participant who is not in good standing may, under no circumstances, be admitted to boarding. In the case of a minor, an adult accompanying person must then take him/her back to his/her parent’s home.

Aviation and customs security measures

As part of the "Vigipirate" plan in France and similar measures taken in other countries, security checks have increased in France and Poland against both people and luggage. It is therefore important not to present yourself at the airport with any object that is sharp, blunt or can be used as a weapon (all types of knives, forks, scissors, cutters, compasses...), nor any narcotic product. Clothing or objects showing physical or olfactory traces of narcotic drugs may give rise to additional police checks.

The organizers decline any responsibility in case of non-compliance with these rules, and encourage teachers to remind their students firmly before departure. Top of page

Strengthen one’s knowledge

In order to better understand the meaning of the visit to the Auschwitz Museum and to better measure the extent of the crime committed by the Nazis, the Shoah Memorial strongly advises participating students to review their knowledge before the day of the visit.
