Participate in the trip

The approach

The Shoah Memorial organizes, between January and March 2013, six one-day study trips to Auschwitz camp and one of three days: Krakow and Auschwitz, as part of a national program initiated and funded by the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah.

These study trips are intended for students in the first and final years of public and private education under contract. They are intended only for entire classes, accompanied by two teachers, within the limit of one class per establishment. They are supervised by historians from the Shoah Memorial, and take place as far as possible in the presence of former deportees.

For the 2012-2013 school year, this program is open to the following seven academies: Aix-Marseille, Caen, Grenoble, Nantes, Nice, Strasbourg and Toulouse.

It is up to the interested teaching teams to carry out an educational project in which the study tour fits. This project presents the approach adopted, the actions that will be carried out with the class before and after the trip to Poland, as well as the various planned achievements (exhibition, film, website, writing workshop...).

Its objective is to contribute to the preparation of students, to participate in their motivation, to strengthen their long-term involvement and to materialize the knowledge and reactions elicited by the discovery of the Auschwitz site. It will also enable a wider audience to be reached than just the participants of the study tour.

The theme chosen, directly linked to the history of the extermination of European Jews, could be for example a research on deported high school students or people arrested in the city where the establishment is located during the Second World War.

Particular attention will be paid to the interdisciplinarity of projects and to the effective investment of students in the development of content.
