Participate in the trip

The approach

Between January and March 2013, the Holocaust Memorial is organizing six one-day study trips to Auschwitz and one three-day study trip to Krakow and Auschwitz as part of a national programme initiated and funded by the Foundation for the Memory of the Holocaust.

These study trips are intended for students in the first and last year of public and private contract education. They are addressed only to whole classes, accompanied by two teachers, within the limit of one class per school. They are supervised by historians of the Holocaust Memorial, and take place as far as possible in the presence of former deportees.

For the 2012-2013 academic year, this programme is open to the following seven academies: Aix-Marseille, Caen, Grenoble, Nantes, Nice, Strasbourg and Toulouse.

It is the responsibility of the teaching teams concerned to carry out a pedagogical project in which the study trip is included. This project presents the approach adopted, the actions that will be carried out with the class before and after the trip to Poland, as well as the various planned achievements (exhibition, film, website, writing workshop...).

Its objective is to contribute to the preparation of students, to participate in their motivation, to strengthen their involvement over time and to materialize the knowledge and reactions aroused by the discovery of the site of Auschwitz. It will also reach a wider audience than just the study trip participants.

The theme chosen, which is directly linked to the history of the extermination of the Jews of Europe, can be for example a research on high school students deported or people arrested in the city where the institution is located during the Second World War.

Particular attention will be paid to the interdisciplinary nature of projects and the effective investment of students in content development.
