The Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Shoah, a private foundation recognized as being of public interest, created in December 2000 at the end of the work of the Mattéoli Commission on the spoliations of the Jews of France, is chaired by Mr. David de Rothschild. Whether it is requested or initiated by actions, the Foundation supports projects led by institutions, associations or individuals.
Its primary vocation is historical research and the transmission of the history of the Shoah, particularly in France. To do a work of memory but also of solidarity and recognition, this is the second mission of the Foundation that provides its support, through specialized social institutions of the Jewish community, to the deportees and Jews victims of anti-Semitic persecution, to their families and to those who helped them.
Finally, its mission is also essential to support projects aimed at the preservation, development and influence of Jewish culture and Judaism, in respect for their different components.
