Educational projects of the year 2009-2010: the newspapers

From Château-du-Loir to Auschwitz

On 12 October 1942, several members of the same family were arrested by French gendarmes at Château-du-Loir in the Sarthe. Delivered to the Nazis, they were deported to Auschwitz less than a month later and gassed as soon as the convoy arrived. A class of BEPs from Nazareth Vocational High School retraced their journey by going to the places where they were rounded up, interned, and then murdered. On the return from the study trip, the students wrote several articles published in a local weekly newspaper, L'Echo de la Vallée du Loir, in May 2010.

On 24 February 2010, a class of ES students from the Lycée Victor Hugo in Marseille discovered the Auschwitz site with Ida Grinspan, who was deported in 1944 at the age of 14. Upon their return, the students decided to dedicate a special section of the school’s newspaper to the history of the camp and the testimonies of the survivors.
