From Château-du-Loir to Auschwitz
On October 12, 1942, several members of the same family were arrested by French gendarmes at Château-du-Loir, in the Sarthe. Delivered to the Nazis, they were deported to Auschwitz less than a month later and gassed as soon as the convoy arrived. A class of BEPs from the Nazareth vocational high school retraced their journey by going to the places where they were rounded up, interned, and then murdered. On February 24, 2010, a class of Terminale ES from the Victor Hugo high school in Marseille discovered the site of Auschwitz accompanied by Ida Grinspan, deported in 1944 at the age of 14. Upon their return, the students decided to dedicate a special section of the school newspaper to the history of the camp and the testimony of the survivors.
