On 30 October 1956, the final project of Isaac Schneersohn, founder of the Centre for Contemporary Jewish Documentation, was born: the inauguration of a building in memory of the victims of the Shoah, the Memorial of the Unknown Jewish Martyr.
On the occasion of this anniversary, the Shoah Memorial will make you discover on these social networks, throughout the coming weeks, the history of this place, conceived from then on as an archive center and a museum: Who are the personalities who supported Schneersohn’s project and what difficulties were encountered? Who are the architects and why did you design the building in this form? How did the inauguration of the Memorial take place on 30 October 1956? Who are the researchers who came to document at the Memorial? 70 years later, what has become of the institution?
Through unpublished documents and archives, historians and researchers such as Serge Klarsfeld will revisit the origins of the Shoah Memorial, its history, its commitment and its transmission of the memory of the Shoah.
