Filming the war, the Soviets facing the Holocaust 1941—1946 Valérie Pozner, Alexandre Sumpf, Vanessa Voisin
"I went to Auschwitz the day after his release. It is impossible to restore the feeling of distress and anger that has taken hold of us at the sight of these bleeding faces, these eyes of martyrs. Many of them did not even have the strength to rejoice. In one shot of the film, we see a little old woman with white hair and a toothless smile: she was just 20 years old. My colleague and friend Nikolai Bykov was unable to film and did not stay, because Auschwitz shook our feelings and our will. For 35 days, we filmed the death camp as the soldiers had abandoned it.”
Kenan Kutub-Zade, 14 August 1976.
