After October 7 and the instrumentalization of the conflict in the Middle East, the school year 2023-2024 was marked by an unprecedented increase in antisemitic statements and acts.
Nevertheless, in 2023, the Shoah Memorial welcomed more students: 4 622 school groups from CM1 to the final year, including 2 854 in Paris and 591 in Drancy. Our mediators conducted 1,177 activities outside the walls in schools, colleges and high schools throughout the national territory and abroad. More than 8,000 teachers have participated in at least one of our courses.
These figures confirm the expectations of the educational world for our actions, but also our constant commitment to enrich our educational offer.
In this perspective, the coming months will see the introduction of many new things: workshops, memory trails, as well as exploratory visits to Paris and Drancy. They will question our museum and memorial spaces, provoke reflection by encouraging the active participation of students and the deepening of knowledge.
Throughout the pages of this brochure, you will discover a wide range of cultural and artistic activities. They are intended for students and organized on the occasion of emblematic dates. They constitute an asserted desire to renew our event choices on our sites in Paris and Drancy. A dedicated program will also be proposed and developed as part of the 80th anniversary of the discovery of the camps by the Allies.
The Mémorial de la Shoah has been actively involved for years in supporting students and teachers who participate in the National Competition of Resistance and Deportation (CNRD). To this end, we have designed adapted educational resources.
For the first time in its history, our Institution will invite students to participate in an unprecedented oratory competition at the Shoah Memorial in Drancy.
Faced with the salient issues of society and the educational system, we renew our determination to pass on the history of the Holocaust and the genocides of the 20th century. It makes education a priority axis of our missions: it is about giving back all its meaning to historical knowledge, to the choice of words in order to avoid amalgams, attempts at instrumentalization and awaken critical thinking.
The assassination of Dominique Bernard, 3 years after that of Samuel Paty, deeply upset each of us. These teachers have dedicated their lives to educating our young people in accordance with the laws and republican values. Also, we will not stop deploying and amplifying our educational and pedagogical work against all forms of intolerance, racism and antisemitism.
We remain more committed than ever by your side to propose actions tailored to your needs and expectations. Thanks to the work carried out together, we will be able to meet the challenges that arise and continue to promote the values of the School and the Shoah Memorial.
Happy back-to-school season to all!
