Future educators attended a training on genocides at the University of Barcelona

Nearly 40 students in education sciences and young researchers attended the training course "Genocides and mass atrocities."  Educational and pedagogical tools on history and memories" co-organized by the European Observatory of Memories of the Solidarity UB Foundation, the Shoah Memorial and the Research Group Teaching History, Geography and other Social Sciences from the University of Barcelona on May 11 and 12 in Barcelona.

Annette Wieviorka, Johann Chapoutot and Jean Arnault Dérens were among the 14 speakers present at this seminar which took place on 11 and 12 May 2017 at the University of Barcelona and the Castle of Montjuïc.

The programme focused on teaching methods concerning the prevention of racism, antisemitism and extreme violence from a series of presentations on the Holocaust, crimes against humanity in Latin America, the genocide of the Tutsi in Rwanda, the massacres and violence in Spain during the Francoist regime and the mass atrocities committed during the Balkan war. It was also discussed the role of museums and public spaces in transmitting these memories, as well as the use of technological tools in teaching recent history.
