The complex of Auschwitz-Birkenau occupies a quite singular place in the history of the genocide of the Jews. This is where the murder of Jews by Nazi Germany was carried out for the longest time, with the most advanced technical means and, in the end, the deadliest death toll: more than a million dead, including 865,000 Jews gassed as soon as the convoys arrived.
