Other commemorative educational events 26 January 2018

In 2002, the European Ministers of Education adopted, on the initiative of the Council of Europe, a declaration establishing the Day for the Remembrance of the Holocaust and for the Prevention of Crimes against Humanity in Educational Establishments in the Member States. France and the UN chose the date of 27 January, the date of the discovery of the Auschwitz camp by the Soviet Army, to establish this day of remembrance. On this occasion, the Shoah Memorial coordinates, with the support of the Ministry of the Armed Forces – Directorate of Heritage, Memory and Archives (DPMA), the National Office of Veterans and War Victims (ONACVG) and the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah throughout the national territory, commemorative events and educational purposes, in partnership with the national work of the Bleuet de France and twelve institutions in charge of places of remembrance related to persecution, the internment, deportation, and extermination of the Jews of France.
