Two women, Félicité and Stella, meet. One experienced the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda, the other, the Jewish genocide. When Félicité speaks for the first time to Stella, she thinks she is lost and states that she doesn’t remember anything. That she is just looking for the house of the Hortensias, a house for former deportees where she was hired as a cook. Stella also has her own memory, that of her brother, Yenkel, who died in the musicians' block, whose Yiddish melody she often hears. No competition between the genocides, but a link between them: The Living.
