May 3, 1946, the international military tribunal for the Far East meets for the first time. 11 judges, 400 witnesses, lawyers and prosecutors, lawmen will examine before the cameras of the whole world the guilt of 28 high Japanese leaders held responsible for the policy of conquest and terror led by their country over more than three decades. Like the Nuremberg trial, the one in Tokyo was intended to be a model of its kind. But after more than three years of investigations, hearings and pleadings, it ended in a real mess.
