Orphan, Maurice Zelty is placed in Paris. Shortly after the beginning of the war, his brother, who was resisting, entrusted him to the National Movement Against Racism (MNCR) which hid him among the peasants of Haute-Savoie, then in Villard-de-Lans, before entrusting him to Madame François in the house Le Renouveau in Montmorency. Hitherto withdrawn into himself, Maurice lets his anger explode here. Resistant, opposed to everything, he follows school with difficulty, not knowing how to read or write correctly. But, endowed with an innate sense of narrative, he is a formidable storyteller.
