The director went to meet the 90-year-old man in his studio, where we discover part of his work, influenced by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Watteau, Poussin, but also by Picasso and Goya. At 16 years old, Walter Spitzer is sent to a forced labor camp in Silesia. He spent his life transmitting through painting the meaning of texts and the Bible as well as the hell of the camps. His monument of the Vel'd'Hiv is a tribute to the Jewish people.

In July 1994, President Mitterrand inaugurated a sculpture erected in memory of the roundup of the Vél’ d'Hiv. This monument is an evocation of the Shoah through the personal story of Walter Spitzer, its sculptor, former survivor of the Nazi camps. This film traces the artist’s work, his "work of memory" in creation in his studio.
