Because it had the reputation of being a Jewish ghetto in the middle of Paris, "the insalubrious block n°16" was the subject, from December 1941, of a vast urban development operation based on the legal anti-Semitism of Vichy.

In 1956, the Memorial of the unknown Jewish martyr, which became the Shoah Memorial in 2005, was inaugurated on the site of this "block 16".

In the presence of the author, Sarah Gensburger, CNRS-ISP, Alexandre Gady, université Paris 4-Sorbonne, Centre André Chastel and Jacques- Olivier David, educational coordinator, Mémorial de la Shoah.

Moderated by Marie-Anne Matard-Bonucci, professor of contemporary history, University Paris 8 and member of the IUF.
