New educational offer 2019-2020

As part of the new high school programs (Second and First), the Shoah Memorial offers a new educational offer. Thus, the workshops on deconstruction of prejudices, combating forms of racism and anti-Semitism or issues of the information society address these concerns. They were developed taking into account the moral and civic education programs. Moreover, the genocides of Armenians, Jews and Tutsis are addressed from a comparative perspective: the workshops "BD pour mémoire" or "Justice face aux génocides" are part of this perspective. Thanks to the dedicated signage, the pages of this brochure will allow you to easily identify all these activities.

The theme of the 2019-2020 National Competition of Resistance and Deportation entitled 1940: entering the Resistance. Understanding, refusing to resist, will be widely discussed this year by our teams. The workshops "The 'Undesirables' in 1939-1940 France", "Women in resistance: the first committed" and "In the name of freedom: routes of volunteers" contribute greatly to the preparation of students. A series of screenings-meetings, testimonies-videos, and thematic visits will complete the system dedicated to the competition. Finally, the early commitment of these men and women in the Resistance will be the subject of a new traveling exhibition available from September, training sessions for teachers, and a mini-website.

On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of Genocides and the Prevention of Crimes against Humanity, and the 75th anniversary of the discovery of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, the Memorial will propose a number of activities for students: screenings, encounters, exhibitions, testimonies, assizes, ceremony ...

The Memorial offers schools a number of educational workshops, which can be easily carried out on site and are intended for primary school students as well as middle and high school students. Beyond the already existing agreements with the academies of Dijon, Toulouse, Strasbourg, or Poitiers, these activities outside the walls will be extended in 2019-2020 to other academies, under the aegis of the rectorats.

The southern branch of the Memorial, based in Toulouse, relays the actions of the Shoah Memorial to the general public and develops various activities for schools: educational workshops, screenings, historical tours, rental of traveling exhibitions, meetings with witnesses and historians. A summer school is offered every year in July as well as training sessions for teachers to update knowledge on the genocides of the twentieth century, by offering educational opportunities.

Working for the transmission and knowledge of the history of the Shoah, the Shoah Memorial works in close collaboration with many partners: the Ministry of National Education, the academies, the Daac de Paris, or other institutions and museums of history... Agreements with local authorities also support this action. Thus, the Shoah Memorial is linked to the departmental council of Seine-Saint-Denis, the city hall of Paris or the Île-de-France region by framework agreements setting up free of charge certain activities for students and teachers in their area.

For the 2019-2020 academic year, two new partnerships have been signed with the departmental councils of Seine-et-Marne (77) and Hauts-de-Seine (92). These agreements will facilitate the work with schools, in particular the travel and visits of secondary school students to Paris and Drancy.
