BACKGROUND: DEPORTATIONS DURING WORLD WAR II: HISTORY AND MEMORIES

Level: from 9th to 12th grade

In this course, students distinguish between the different types of Nazi deportations during the Second World War. At the Memorial, they study archives that allow them to reconstruct the journey of several family members arrested during the Vel d'Hiv roundup and, for the most part, deported because they were Jews. At the Museum of the Order of Liberation, they reconstitute the journey of companions deported for resistance through the material testimonies of their detention.

Duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes (including 1 hour and 15 minutes for the visit to the Memorial and 1 hour and 15 minutes for its opening)

Thematic visit: Resistants in the camps: deportation and repression

Thanks to objects and drawings brought back from the concentration camps, students discover the journeys of companions and medalists of the Resistance deported in reprisals.
