Summer University in Toulouse

Teaching the history of the Holocaust

On the model of the annual summer university of the Shoah Memorial in Paris, Toulouse hosts the only relocated summer university in the region. At the beginning of July, teachers from all disciplines, from the academies of Toulouse, Montpellier and Bordeaux, are invited to attend a multi-day training seminar on teaching about the genocides of the 20th century. The summer university has the particularity of being able to take place in different cultural places of the city and to introduce the Jewish life in Toulouse during the Second World War.

The teaching of the Shoah legitimately finding its place in the educational programs from primary school, the Shoah Memorial, in consultation with the Toulouse Academy and the direction of the departmental services of National Education of Haute-Garonne chose to offer this training to a group of school teachers. Combining scientific contributions with workshops specifically designed for the first degree, this training offer is open on an experimental basis to a designated audience of teachers from Haute-Garonne but aims to be extended in future years.
