"The Shoah as a starting point" in Thessaloniki from October 31 to November 2, 2025.

«What is "The Shoah as a starting point"?»

The program "Shoah as a starting point" is a device initiated by the Shoah Memorial in 2015, which aims to bring together at the regional or national level the communities of teachers with divergent historical narratives.

It is divided this year into 14 European training courses, divided into two levels: beginner and advanced. The network is made up of about thirty partners: ministries of national education, teachers' associations, museums, etc.

Training in Thessaloniki

This edition between Greece and North Macedonia brought together from 31 October to 2 November 30 teachers from both countries in Thessaloniki. The training was co-organized by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs of Greece, the Jewish Memorial in North Macedonia and the Shoah Memorial.

In addition to the deepening of knowledge on the Shoah in the region, the work focused notably on the Greek civil war and Jewish life in Thessaloniki.

The pedagogical workshops have, on one hand, allowed teachers to express themselves on the difficulties related to the teaching of the Shoah, and on the other hand, to develop new methods of teaching the Shoah.

This operation was co-financed by the Claims Conference and Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
