«The Holocaust as a starting point» in Thessaloniki from October 31 to November 2, 2025.   

«What is "The Holocaust as a starting point"?

The program "La Shoah comme point de départ" is a device initiated by the Mémorial de la Shoah in 2015 which intends to bring closer at the regional or national level the communities of teachers with divergent historical narratives.

It is declined this year in 14 European training courses divided into two levels beginner and advanced. The network is made up of about thirty partners: ministries of national education, teachers' associations, museums, etc.

Training in Thessaloniki

This edition between Greece and North Macedonia brought together from October 31 to November 2, 30 teachers from both countries in Thessaloniki. The training was co-organized by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs of Greece, the Jewish Memorial of North Macedonia and the Shoah Memorial.

In addition to the deepening of knowledge on the Holocaust in the region, work focused notably on the Greek civil war and on Jewish life in Thessaloniki.

The pedagogical workshops allowed, on the one hand, the teachers to express themselves on the difficulties related to the teaching of the Shoah, and on the other hand, to develop new methods of teaching the Shoah.

This operation was co-financed by the Claims Conference and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
