On Monday 14 November 2016, the Shoah Memorial and the National Archives of Morocco signed an agreement as part of a cooperation concerning the resources available within the two institutions. This agreement, supported by the Moroccan Ministry of Culture and the French diplomatic representation, is the first contracted by the Shoah Memorial in the Muslim world.

Jacques Fredj, director of the Shoah Memorial, and Jamaâ Baïda, director of the national archives of Morocco, stressed the importance of the scientific approach, at the heart of the mission of both parties, and of intercultural dialogue in order to fight against forms of radicalism.

The French Embassy in Morocco, the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) and the Shoah Memorial organized a training session at the Lyautey high school in Casablanca for history teachers from the French network in Morocco.

It covered the parts of the official curriculum devoted to teaching about the Holocaust and genocide. Jean-Marc Berthon, advisor for cooperation and cultural action, and Jacques Fredj, director of the Memorial, opened these two days focusing on historical content and the new challenges facing history teachers.

In parallel, several experts of the Memorial also intervened before classes of the establishments of the Alliance Israélite Universelle. The support of teachers in Morocco for continuing education is part of a long-term approach and will soon be followed by other similar actions.
