Signing of an agreement between the academic region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and the Shoah Memorial
On Wednesday 13 September 2017, Bernard Beignier, Rector of the academic region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Rector of the academy of Marseille, Chancellor of the universities, Emmanuel Ethis, Rector of the academy of Nice, Chancellor of the universities, and Jacques Fredj, director of the Shoah Memorial, signed a partnership agreement aimed at enabling many staff in the national education system (history-geography teachers, but also those teaching literature, arts education, school teachers and educational officials) to be specifically trained in teaching the history of the Holocaust and the genocides of the 20th century.

Why and how to «teach the history of the Shoah» in the 21st century? These questions are at the heart of the mission of the Shoah Memorial. First archive and resource centre on the Shoah in Europe, the Memorial is also a "museum of vigilance", wide open to new generations, designed to learn and understand.
This partnership, lasting 3 years, will have different objectives:
- promote the educational and cultural mission of the academic region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur through the use of resources and skills from the Shoah Memorial
- to promote the mission of the educational service, training, the development of places of remembrance and external projects of the Shoah Memorial, intended for school, university and teacher audiences, implement a programme of specific activities for the academy and provide assistance to school and university projects,
- accompany the actions aimed at school audiences, – thus encouraging regular attendance of the Shoah Memorial and participation in initiatives taken on the territory of the academy.
Thus, the Memorial will provide the academic region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur with both human and material educational resources to participate in the implementation of projects: information and training for teachers, access to resources, educational workshops within schools, creation of educational tools, traveling exhibitions, visits, study trips for teachers and students.
