This Foundation was created in April 2018 by the descendants of Ernest and Claire Heilbronn, deported by convoy 69 on March 7, 1944, with their daughter Marcelle Chevalier, then murdered at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
The Ernest and Claire Heilbronn Foundation, under the aegis of the Fondation du Mémorial de la Shoah recognized as a public utility, aims to reward those who, through their work and research, contribute to the history of the Jews in France, education against racism and antisemitism, and the history of the Second World War in France.
The jury and the founding members of the Ernest and Claire Heilbronn Foundation unanimously awarded the following prizes which will be presented:
To Mr. Edgar Brossollet for his thesis: "Henry Castro, Bonapartist Israelite, transatlantic entrepreneur, French baron of Texas (1786-1865)" at the Sorbonne university, under the direction of Cyril Grange, research director at the CNRS.
To Professors Bruno Mandaroux, history-geography teacher and Mathieu Testa, documentation teacher at the Louis Vincent high school in Metz, for the project 2025-2026: "Irene and Michel, two children from Metz victims of the Shoah."
Realization of the biography and an exhibition by a first-year class and a second-year class on two Messin children deported by convoy 77 on July 31, 1944: Irène Hendler born on December 3, 1937 and Michel Westreich born on February 24, 1940.
