This foundation was created in April 2018 by the descendants of Ernest and Claire Heilbronn, deported by convoy 69 on 7 March 1944, with their daughter Marcelle Chevalier, then murdered at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
The Ernest and Claire Heilbronn Foundation, under the aegis of the Shoah Memorial Foundation, recognized as a public utility, aims to reward those who, through their work and research, contribute to the history of Jews in France, education against racism and anti-Semitism, and the history of World War II in France.
The jury and the founding members of the Ernest and Claire Heilbronn Foundation unanimously awarded the following prizes which will be presented:
To Mr. Edgar Brossollet for his thesis: "Henry Castro, Bonapartist Israelite, transatlantic entrepreneur, French baron of Texas (1786-1865)" at the Sorbonne University, under the direction of Cyril Grange, research director at the CNRS.
To Professors Bruno Mandaroux, history-geography teacher and Mathieu Testa, research professor at the Lycée Louis Vincent de Metz, for the 2025-2026 project: "Irène and Michel, two Messin children victims of the Shoah."
Realization of the biography and an exhibition by a first class and a second class on two Messin children deported by convoy 77 of July 31, 1944: Irène Hendler born December 3, 1937 and Michel Westreich born February 24, 1940.
