As part of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, a ceremony was held on Thursday 30 January at the large amphitheatre of the Sorbonne in front of an audience composed of students from different schools in Paris.
This ceremony took place in the presence of Bernard Beigner, rector of the Academy of Paris, Jacques Fredj, director of the Shoah Memorial, Arlette Testyler, president of the Union of Auschwitz deportees and Annette Wieviorka, historian and honorary research director at the CNRS
On this occasion, the students were able to hear the poignant story of Ester Senot, a Shoah survivor, in a conversation with Hubert Strouk, head of the educational department at the Shoah Memorial. During this ceremony, Esther Senot received a trophy from the Paris Academy, created by the students of Lucas High School in Nehou.
The students also attended a screening of a video of the film "The Immortals", in the presence of directors Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, as well as Camille Marty, the young student who meets Léon Placek in the film. The ceremony was also marked by the performance of the vocal ensemble of the lycée La Fontaine directed by Patrick CHOUKROUN.
