For students from 9th grade to 12th grade

A two-hour online educational conference will be held on June 3 at 2 p.m. on the occasion of the publication of the book I write to you from Auschwitz. Les lettres retrouvées, by Karen Taïeb, preface by Ivan Jablonka, Tallandier, 2021.

Between September 1942 and July 1944, nearly 5,000 letters from deportees were sent to France as part of the Brief-Aktion (literally "letter operation"). This operation, quite poorly known, was set up by the Nazi regime in order to reassure the French Jewish populations about the fate of their relatives at Auschwitz as part of a propaganda operation. In I write to you from Auschwitz, Karen Taieb highlights the lives of dozens of deportees, tells their story and shares their words.

This educational conference intended for a school audience (middle school and high school) will allow discussion around the themes of correspondence and memory.

In the presence of Karen Taieb, author, head of the archives department of the Shoah Memorial, accompanied by Laurence Aptekier-Fisbein, niece of Mendel-Marcel Aptekier, deported to the Drancy camp in 1942, whose correspondence was found as part of the Brief-Aktion, as well as Maud Landau, actress.
