As part of the European Heritage Days

In 1958, Félix Chevrier (1884-1962), former resistance fighter and director of the colony of Chabannes, named Righteous among the nations in 1999, donated his papers to the Shoah Memorial. In these archives, a document of 170 pages written by the staff and children of the house of the OSE (Work of relief to the children) installed in Chabannes: the Journal of Chabannes. This journal has just been registered in the International Memory of the World Register, along with other children’s drawings made during the Second World War. An exceptional story and document that we invite you to discover.

By Katy Hazan, historian, director of the Archives and History department at the OSE, author of Rire le jour, pleurer la nuit, les enfants juifs cachés dans la Creuse pendant la guerre (1939-1944) (Calmann-Lévy, 2014), which contains in particular the complete transcription of the Journal de Chabannes.
