As part of the European Heritage Days

In 1958, Félix Chevrier (1884-1962), former resistance fighter and director of the Chabannes colony, named Juste parmi les nations in 1999, donated his papers to the Shoah Memorial. In these archives, a 170-page document written by the staff and children of the OSE (Work of relief to the children) house installed in Chabannes: the Journal de Chabannes. This journal has just been entered in the International Register of the Memory of the World, along with other children’s drawings made during the Second World War. An exceptional history and document that we invite you to discover.

By Katy Hazan, historian, director of the Archives and History department at the OSE, author of Rire le jour, pleurer la nuit, les enfants juifs cachés dans la Creuse pendant la guerre (1939-1944) (Calmann-Lévy, 2014), which contains in particular the complete transcript of the Journal de Chabannes.
