The Shoah Memorial honors Elie Buzyn

Born in Lodz (Poland) in 1929, Elie was 11 years old when the Nazis created the ghetto in which the city’s Jewish population was locked up. Following the liquidation of the ghetto in the summer of 1944, he was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. During the evacuation of the camp, he was transferred to Buchenwald. In the spring of 1945, Elie was one of 426 "children from Buchenwald" welcomed in France by the Œuvre de secours aux enfants (OSE).

Elie Buzyn was tirelessly committed to bearing witness and transmitting the history and memory of the Shoah. He passed away on May 23, 2022.

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, the Memorial paid tribute to Elie Buzyn around a commemorative conference.
