Tribute to Pierre-François Veil, president of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah

The Shoah Memorial pays tribute to Pierre-François Veil, president of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah, who died on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Born on March 16, 1954, son of Simone and Antoine Veil, he was a lawyer at the Paris Bar since 1979.

Involved for a long time in the transmission of the memory of the Shoah, he was a member of the executive committee of the Memorial of the Unknown Jewish Martyr in the 1990s, working on the expansion project of our institution.

Unanimously elected to the presidency of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah in July 2023, succeeding David de Rothschild, he placed his mandate in the continuity of his predecessors, including his mother Simone Veil, first president of the Foundation.
