Training days for teachers in Thessaloniki
For the first time, the Ministries of Education of Greece and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia have cooperated directly in a regional partnership initiated and supported by the Shoah Memorial.
These 4 days of training at the premises of the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki brought together 40 teachers from both countries. They focused on the comparative approaches to teaching about the Shoah and on common awareness of the genocides of the past century.
The works were opened by the mayor of the city, Mr. Boutari, the Secretary General for Religious Affairs, Mr. Kalantzis, the ambassador Jan Tegovski, the consuls of France and Germany as well as the president of the Jewish community.
The very warm atmosphere between participants reinforces the Memorial’s desire to perpetuate this educational, public and historical dialogue during a new edition in Bitola in 2018. This initiative was supported by the German Foreign Ministry and the Europe for Citizens programme.
