Memory, transmission, future: the Shoah Memorial is anchored in Nice news

Yesterday, Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the first stone of the future Shoah Memorial Museum in Nice was laid, notably in the presence of Serge Klarsfeld and Mayor Christian Estrosi.

This museum, a place of memory, transmission and reflection will be located in the heart of the city, in the former substation Lebon, passage Gottlieb (ex Meyerbeer).

The future museum will be held in an iconic building of more than 600 m 2, completely renovated for the occasion, which will offer an innovative museographic journey, immersive and accessible to all.

«Nice will be the 7th museum of the Shoah Memorial. (...) Each of them (the museums) tells its own local story. The Alpes-Maritimes occupy a very important place, after having gone through the period of Vichy, the Italian occupation and then Nazism," says Jacques Fredj, director of the Shoah Memorial.

«We will have a permanent exhibition area, a temporary space, but also teaching rooms to accommodate school classes. A conference room, too, because we intend to make this place come alive, not just turn towards the past. To remember is to build the future", continues Jacques Fredj.
