Nuit Blanche news

Saturday, June 7, 2025 Sunday, June 8, 2025

For this exceptional Nuit blanche, the Shoah Memorial is pleased to revisit the work of Chantal Akerman, combining several dimensions, notably biographical, of her polymorphous and innovative journey that has marked the history of contemporary art and cinema.

OPENING OF THE WHITE NIGHT

AUDITORIUM 19h-20h30

After a surprise musical opening, screening of the short film Family Business.

Family Business, UK, 1984, 18 minutes, with Aurore Clément, Chantal Akerman, Marilyn Watelet, Leslie Vandermeulen.
With the support of the Cinematek and the Chantal Akerman Foundation.

Made while Akerman was in the United States to write the screenplay for Golden Eighties, this short film tells the filmmaker’s journey to Los Angeles in search of a wealthy uncle whom she has long lost sight of and who she hopes will be able to produce her films. With an almost Chaplinesque humor, it evokes family ties, but also specifically cinematic issues, such as the making or financing of a film, acting and, as often in his work, absurdity.

Presentation of the evening and the exhibition in exchange with the public.

In the presence of the guests of the evening, among whom (under reservation) Sylviane Akerman (Chantal Akerman Foundation), Claire Atherton (editor of many films by Chantal Akerman), Sonia Wieder-Atherton (composer, musician), Marylin Watelet (producer and actress in the film), Natacha Régnier (Demain on déménage), Nathalie Richard (Golden EIghties), Claire Wauthion (Je, Tu, Il, Elle...),
