Training seminar: "The Shoah in the Balkans"
From 25 to 28 April, a training seminar was held at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in Sarajevo for teachers on the mass crimes committed during the Second World War in the Balkans.
The Shoah Memorial brought together 65 teachers from Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia and Bosnia, in partnership with the educational authorities of the states concerned. Benefiting from the expertise of 15 renowned European historians, the participants tried to identify a common narrative on the Holocaust in the Balkans, on local responsibilities and on mass atrocities committed between 1941 and 1945.
The meeting was opened jointly by the ambassadors of France and Germany. This program was supported by the German Foreign Ministry.
For two years, the Shoah Memorial has initiated transnational projects in Europe, bringing together each year teachers from 14 countries in 5 regional seminars. The next event of this cycle will be held in 2018 in Skopje.
