Signing of an agreement between the Memorial and the Academy of Nantes

signature d'une convention de partenariat entre le Mémorial de la Shoah et l'Académie de Nantes

William MAROIS and Jacques Fredj at the signing of the agreement

On Monday, September 19, 2016, Mr. William MAROIS, Rector of the Pays de la Loire Academic Region and of the Academy of Nantes, Chancellor of the Universities, and Jacques FREDJ, director of the Shoah Memorial have signed a partnership agreement aimed at enabling many staff in national education (history, geography, but also literature, arts education teachers, school teachers and educational system executives) to be specifically trained in the teaching of the Shoah and the genocides of the 20th century.

This 3-year partnership consolidates a joint work carried out for 10 years through the joint organization of study trips to Auschwitz for high school students (with financial support from the Pays de la Loire Region and the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah), of academic internships and training trips to Auschwitz and Krakow for history teachers.

This partnership will aim to:

  • promote the educational and cultural mission of the Nantes academy through the use of resources and skills from the Shoah Memorial
  • to promote the mission of the pedagogical service, training, the development of places of remembrance and external projects of the Shoah Memorial, intended for school, university and teacher audiences
  • implement a program of specific activities for the academy and provide assistance to school and university projects
  • accompany the actions towards school audiences
  • thus encourage regular attendance at the Shoah Memorial and participation in initiatives taken on the territory of the academy.

Thus, the Memorial will make available to the academy of Nantes both human and material pedagogical means to participate in the implementation of projects: information and training of teachers, access to resources, creation of teaching tools, traveling exhibitions, visits, study trips for teachers and students.
