Simone Veil: two days of tribute at the Memorial before the Panthéon

Friday 29 and Saturday 30 June 2018, the Shoah Memorial allows the public to come and pay their respects in front of the coffins of Simone Veil and her husband, Antoine Veil, in his crypt located under the forecourt.

Knowing that Simone Veil will leave the Shoah Memorial and go to the Pantheon is also the idea that it is the 76,000 Jews deported from France who will return to the Pantheon. It is a great symbol" said Jacques Fredj, director of the Shoah Memorial.

During these two days of homage, all those who wish can come to meditate in the crypt of the Shoah Memorial, before the two coffins of Simone and Antoine Veil.

Simone Veil, a Holocaust survivor, was deported to Auschwitz at the age of 16 by convoy no. 71 on 13 April 1944. In the crypt of the Memorial, during these two days of meditation, a soundtrack broadcasts the reading of the names of 1,500 Jews deported by this same convoy.

Simone Veil has always been accessible, she has been popular all her life and we want her to continue to be accessible until the eve of her "pantheonization", Jacques Fredj.

Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, came to pay her respects in front of the coffins of Simone Veil and her husband
