Yom HaShoah 2020
Due to the pandemic, we are forbidden to gather at the Memorial for the ceremony of Yom Hashoah. Not wanting to cancel the name reading, we had to invent a virtual ceremony, the first of its kind over a 24-hour duration, an "original" ceremony because it relied on the rebroadcast of ceremonies from past years (mainly 2017 and 2018).
The introductory speech of François Heilbronn was followed by the speech of a former deportee, Henri Borlant delivered during the 2018 ceremony.
Then began the uninterrupted reading of the names of the Jews from France deported by convoys 58 to 85, of the Jews who died in internment camps in France, executed as resistance fighters, or hostages or summarily executed (lists 90 and 91), and of the people deported by convoys 1 to 5.
This somewhat special format allowed us to follow for 24 hours from our containment sites, all the name reminders said by the families of the deportees and many volunteer readers.
The rebroadcast ended on Tuesday, April 21 at 6 PM with the reading of the Kaddish.
