Shoah before Shoah. Behind the scenes of the making of the film

sunday January 18, 2026 at 2:30 PM

Along with Claude Lanzmann, Corinna Coulmas and Irena Steinfeldt-Levy were the key figures in the preliminary interviews conducted with survivors, former Nazis and witnesses as part of the preparatory work for what will become the Holocaust.

The first ensured the translation of discussions from German, the second from Hebrew.

They also, in some cases, conducted their own research to locate the people that the director wanted to interview. The two performers will share their memories of these audio interviews, recorded before the filming of Shoah, and of their close collaboration with Lanzmann.

In the presence of Corinna Coulmas, assistant to Claude Lanzmann, interpreter from German, and Irena Steinfeldt-Levy, assistant to Claude Lanzmann, interpreter from Hebrew.

In conversation with Martin Goutte, senior lecturer in the Cinema and Audiovisual department at Sorbonne Nouvelle University.
