Republican meditation at the Memorial for Emmanuel Macron, Richard Ferrand, and Gérard Larcher

In reaction to the multiplication of anti-Semitic acts in France these days, the Head of State Emmanuel Macron and the Presidents of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand and the Senate Gérard Larcher prayed on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in the crypt of the Shoah Memorial, "a symbolic gesture" to "express their solidarity with the Jewish community of France" and "reaffirm their attachment to the values of the Republic". They then passed through the Wall of Names, on which are engraved the names of 76,000 Jews deported from France during the Shoah, and were able to exchange with those responsible for the educational activities of the Memorial.

«The Republic is a bloc», Emmanuel Macron.

«There is a whole symbol. The President of the Republic has joined us, and this triptych of the Republic is first and foremost a sign of the Republic towards our Jewish compatriots", Gérard Larcher.

"We are together because we want to demonstrate the national union in all its components: institutional and political", Richard Ferrand.

Mission of the Shoah Memorial:

  • 65,000 school children receive each year at the Paris and Drancy Memorial
  • 15,000 schoolchildren participated in our workshops outside the walls organized by the Memorial teams in the province
  • 5,000 teachers in training within and outside the walls per year
  • 3000 police officers in training at the Memorial each year
  • 30 memory trips for schoolchildren and teachers organized each year by the Memorial
  • The mission of the Memorial is to teach the history of the Shoah: since the attacks, the Memorial goes further by setting up educational activities to fight against stereotypes and prejudices, conspiracy theories, the hate speech and propaganda as well as the teaching of other genocides such as that of the Tutsi in Rwanda, which we commemorate on the 25the This year, our goal is to encourage students to decipher and uncover the pitfalls of propaganda: reading between the lines. Because the mission is not only to bring young people into the field of history, but also in that of civic life, commitment and reflection on humanistic values.
