Visit of a delegation from the General Prosecutor’s Office and the prosecutors' offices in the district to the Memorial

The Shoah Memorial organized a visit for the benefit of the magistrates of the general prosecutor’s office and the public prosecutors' offices on April 10, 2018. The delegation, composed of twenty magistrates and led by Catherine Champrenault, attorney general, attended a guided tour by Jacques Fredj, director of the Memorial, before discussing the activities of the Memorial.

During the visit, the magistrates visited the different spaces of the museum, from the Wall of Names to the exhibitions, passing through the archives, research and documentation center which hosts researchers from around the world. The director introduced them to the many activities offered by the Memorial: workshops for schools, traveling exhibitions, training for teachers (The memorial is finally a training organization approved by the Ministry of National Education and Higher Education Research), meetings with witnesses, historians, writers, film screenings, etc...

Karen Taieb, in charge of the archives, then presented to them the documentary collection, and in particular the administrative documents and legal texts produced by the Vichy regime, as well as the archives that were used at the Nuremberg trials.

Finally, the magistrates and the director of the Memorial exchanged, in the form of questions and answers, on the subject of "citizenship courses", set up within the framework of partnership agreements with the appeal courts of Paris, Lyon and Aix-en-Provence and funded by DILCRAH. These courses are a judicial response to racist or anti-Semitic offences that allow for quick and effective punishment of the perpetrator by raising awareness about racism, anti-Semitism and their consequences.
