Using images from the eponymous film, Vienna Before Night follows the story of Wolf Leib Fränkel, the author’s great-grandfather, who moves to this city on his return from Ellis Island and dies there in 1929 before "Nazi night" falls over Europe. For the author, the life of Wolf Leïb Fränkel and that of the great writers who frequented the famous Viennese cafés are inseparable.
