Using the images from the eponymous film, Vienna before night follows the story of Wolf Leib Fränkel, great-grandfather of the author, who settled in this city upon his return from Ellis Island and died there in 1929 before "the Nazi night" fell on Europe. For the author, the life of Wolf Leïb Fränkel and that of the great writers who frequented the famous Viennese cafes are inseparable.
