In 1922, Hugo Bettauer, an Austrian Jewish journalist and novelist, published a satire on anti-Semitism. The story takes place in Vienna, where the authorities decide to expel the Jews as a way out of the economic and social crisis. The novel, which became a bestseller, was made into a film in 1924. In 2015, a copy of the film as well as unpublished footage were found by the Austrian National Archives, which carried out its restoration.
