In 1922, Hugo Bettauer, an Austrian Jewish journalist and novelist, published a satire on anti-Semitism. The story takes place in Vienna, where the authorities decide to expel the Jews to get out of the economic and social crisis. The novel, which became a bestseller, was adapted for cinema in 1924. In 2015, a copy of the film as well as unpublished sequences were found by the Austrian National Archives who proceeded with its restoration.
